Conference Center. The Monterey Meeting Connection, made up of the Monterey Conference Center, the Portola Hotel & Spa, and the Marriott Hotel, is situated on Portola Plaza, which adjoins
Fisherman’s Wharf and is within walking distance of
Cannery Row,
the Monterey Bay Aquarium, shopping areas, restaurants, and other attractions of downtown Monterey. Many scenic and historic sites and championship golf courses are just a short drive away along the California seacoast north and south of
Monterey.
Hotel Accommodations. The Conference headquarters hotels are the Marriott Hotel (350 Calle Principal, Monterey, CA 93940) and the Portola Hotel & Spa (2 Portola Plaza, Monterey, CA 93940). Both are connected to the Monterey Conference Center, and Conference functions will be held in each of the three buildings. The two hotels set aside substantial numbers of rooms for Conference attendees at reduced group rates effective through April 19, 2010. However, as of early March, both had nearly sold out their Conference blocks as well as most other rooms. Because rooms may be available intermittently as individual reservations are occasionally canceled, we suggest you start with the headquarters hotels’ links below and then expand your search to the other options if needed. For whatever hotel you select, be sure to review its payment and cancellation requirements.
Non-government registrants: To reserve a room at one of the headquarters hotels, select a link below.
Portola Hotel & Spa group rate: $185/night (single or double), plus tax
Marriott standard group rate: $189/night (single or double), plus tax
Marriott bayview room group rate: $299/night (single or double), plus tax
Insert arrival and check-out dates and then follow the prompts to complete your reservation. Before submitting your reservation, be sure to verify that the correct group rate is displayed and review the payment and cancellation requirements. If you prefer to make a reservation by phone, call the hotel’s reservations department (Portola: 831-649-4511; Marriott: 888-236-2427). Mention that you are attending the "Battelle Chlorinated Conference" and request the group rate. Two other options are reservation services in Monterey:
Resort 2 Me: Click on http://www.resort2me.com/battelle to see rooms available at a few hotels within reasonable walking distance of the Conference Center. Or, you may call 831-642-6622 to speak with a reservations team member in the Monterey office.
Monterey Peninsula Reservations. Call 888-655-3424 or 831-655-3587, or e-mail mpr@redshift.com
When speaking with an agent at either service, be sure to mention that you are attending the Battelle Chlorinated Conference and request hotels near the Conference Center. Neither of the services charges booking or cancellation fees, but be sure to ask what cancellation fees would be assessed by the hotel.
Government registrants: The blocks reserved for the Conference at the headquarters hotels included a percentage at the U.S. Government per diem rate (currently $140). To check availability of rooms at the per diem rate, a special access code is required. If you are a U.S. federal, state, or local government employee (not a contractor), request the link and code from The Conference Group (800-783-6338 or 614-488-2030; info@confgroupinc.com). For rooms at other hotels, contact Resort 2 Me or Monterey Peninsula Reservations as described above. Ask what ID the hotel you select will require upon check-in to verify that you are a government employee.
Air Transportation. Major air service is available into the Monterey Peninsula Airport, but flying into San Francisco International or San Jose International also is an option. The Monterey/Salinas Airbus Shuttle (831-373-7777) and rental cars are available from these cities. Approximate driving time is 2 hours from San Francisco and 1-1/2 hours from San Jose. Transportation from Monterey Peninsula Airport to the hotels is available by taxi for approximately $15 one way. Airport transportation is not provided by the hotels.
Hotel Parking. As of September 2009, parking rates at the hotels include in and out privileges at the following rates:
Portola Hotel and Spa: $20 per day valet/$17 per day self-park
Marriott Hotel: $19 per day valet (no self-park)
There are also nearby city parking facilities at a cost of $7 and up. Note: the Conference cannot validate parking.
