Under Battelle’s management, the largest civilian science project in the world, the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the Department of Energy's $1.4 billion research facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has established a new record as the world's most powerful accelerator based source of neutrons for scientific research. This project, a partnership of six U.S. Department of Energy Laboratories, represents a collaboration of the best minds and experience from many different fields. The SNS proudly delivered its first neutrons on target, ahead of time, and on budget April 28, 2006.
