BATTELLE PARTICIPATES IN NUCLEAR POWER FORUM

Fondazione Energy Lab, U.S. Embassy sponsor international meeting in Rome

 

COLUMBUS, OH—Battelle, the world’s leading independent research and development organization, will join officials from Italy and the United States Italian Embassy in a forum discussing the challenges of returning to nuclear energy worldwide.

 

Roger Anderson, Business Development Director for the U.K. National Nuclear Laboratory, will represent Battelle at the forum, “Meeting the Challenges of Returning to Nuclear Energy:  Italian and U.S. Perspectives,” sponsored by Fondazione Energy Lab and the U.S. Embassy in Rome on Oct. 27, 2009. 

 

Battelle and the laboratories it manages and co-manages for the U.S. Department of Energy conduct major research and development throughout the nuclear fuel cycle.  Battelle’s broad experience in international nuclear safety is a result of 12 years spent managing the United States’ International Nuclear Safety Program at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which focuses on improving safety at Former Soviet Union (FSU) nuclear plants, laboratory development, decommissioning, and Chernobyl site restoration.  Battelle also is a major participant in international programs to address nuclear safety across the former Soviet Union.  In addition, Battelle has reviewed the design basis for Argentina’s Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN).  The work includes analyzing break size criteria for the Atucha II plant and developing a research plan for moving forward with Atucha II. 

 

Earlier this year, Battelle became a part of the management team for the United Kingdom’s National Nuclear Laboratory, providing both technical and laboratory management expertise.

 

In the private sector, Battelle has ongoing work with Sogin to develop a decommissioning plan for the Trisaia site in southern Italy.
