Orlando, FL—Battelle, a Gold Sponsor at the Feb. 26-29 Global Plastics Environmental Conference (GPEC) in Orlando, will present a session focused on bio-based and biodegradable materials.


“Plastics: The Wonderful World of Sustainability and Recycling,” offers participants and attendees the opportunity to learn about new technologies and innovations for plastics sustainability and recycling.


Five professionals in the fields of bio-based and biodegradable materials will present scientific papers during the session. Battelle’s presenters will include Jeff Cafmeyer, Principal Research Scientist, presenting “A New Class of Polyols Utilizing Cost-effective Feedstocks and their Applications” and Corey Linden, Research Scientist, presenting “Improving PLA Performance for Injection-molding Applications.”


Battelle also will sponsor the Clean Technology and Business Forum and Competition and will award the top business plan $2,000, along with $1,000 for the runner-up. Rick Heggs, Director of Biobased Materials Strategy at Battelle, will be one of the judges.


Participants in the competition were asked to submit a business plan related to the theme “Clean Technologies and the Plastics Industry.”  Finalists and alternates will be judged by professionals in the plastics and investment industries on specific criteria established by GPEC.  The ultimate goal of the competition is to allow innovators of clean technologies in the plastics industry the opportunity to showcase, discuss and develop their products.
