Columbus, OH, USA—Battelle has licensed its Opt-EFX™ electrohydrodynamic (EHD) technology to The Incubation Factory, a market accelerator focused on creating and growing high potential companies based on breakthrough technologies.  The licensing of Opt-EFX™ technology represents the commercialization of a Battelle innovation in the rapidly growing consumer home fragrance market, a $5 billion industry growing more than 10 percent annually.

We are very enthusiastic about the commercial potential of Opt-EFX™ in fragrance delivery and are pleased to license another innovative Battelle technology to The Incubation Factory,” said Jim Sonnett, Vice President of Science and Technology at Battelle.

“Opt-EFX™ is a great example of a relevant and innovative Battelle technology and we at The Incubation Factory are excited to collaborate with Battelle to commercialize this technology.  Battelle has a tremendous reputation in research and development and is a proven source of advanced and commercially impactful technologies,” said Randy Delkus, President of The Incubation Factory.

Under the terms of the agreement, The Incubation Factory has the right to commercialize products based on Battelle’s Opt-EFX™ technology in a broad range of applications and market verticals.

Battelle’s Opt-EFX™ technology, based on electrohydrodynamics (EHD), converts electrical energy into kinetic energy as the material is emitted from a nozzle.  It produces, in the case of this license, Optimist™ aerosols.  Opt-EFX™ technology combines the disciplines of physics, electric fields and formulation chemistry in a process that generates reproducible, monodisperse particles, droplets, or aerosols.  Opt-EFX™ technology has several potential consumer product applications in the consumer home fragrance, fine fragrance, cosmetics, personal care, and cleaning products markets.
