Colonel Christopher Gunther, USMC (Ret.), has recently been promoted to Vice President, Marine Corps Market Sector, for Battelle’s National Security Global Business. After completing a distinguished career with the United States Marine Corps, he has served at Battelle as a business development leader, responsible for helping USMC clients with technology solutions.
In this new role, he will have leadership responsibility for providing high-value, affordable, technology-based solutions to Marine Corps customers and their suppliers.
“Chris brings a deep understanding of the technology needs of the Marine Corps, and he is the ideal leader to further enhance Battelle’s impact in this important national security market,” said Pete Hennessey, Vice President for Business Development for Battelle’s National Security Global Business.
While on active duty, Gunther held key operational positions as Commanding Officer of 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Qualified) and as Commanding Officer, Battalion Landing Team 3/8. His staff assignments have included assignments to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. European Command, and as an instructor at the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School. His last assignment on active duty was as the G-5, I Marine Expeditionary Force, during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Arts in Government from Georgetown University, a Master of Engineering Management from George Washington University, and was a military fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.
He has received numerous awards with the Marine Corps including the Legion of Merit, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal.
Gunther will be based in Battelle’s Crystal City office.
