BATTELLE WINS TWO ON-SITE CONTRACTS FROM VOLPE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER

October 17, 1997

Battelle recently won two contracts worth $33.5 million from the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center.

The work will be conducted from Battelle's Transportation Division office in Cambridge, Mass. The wins make Battelle the only contractor to be part of both Volpe National Transportation Systems Center's on-site contracts.

Volpe provides research, analytical, management, and engineering support to the U.S. Department of Transportation; federal, state, and local governmental agencies; public authorities; private organizations; and foreign countries in the areas of transportation and logistics.

Under the first contract, Battelle is the major subcontractor to Computer Sciences Corporation, helping it provide information systems support for a broad range of transportation and logistics programs. The five-year, $26 million contract will involve nearly 60 Battelle staff.

Under the second contract, Battelle is the major subcontractor to EG&G, providing operations research and regulatory and policy analysis. This five-year contract is valued at $7.2 million and will involve up to 15 Battelle staff.

"These contracts represent the next significant step in Battelle's long-term relationship with the Volpe Center, which began some 20 years ago," said John Allen, Volpe Client manager for Battelle.

The relationship between Volpe and Battelle expanded significantly eight years ago when Battelle established an office in Cambridge - just across the street from the Volpe Center - to support Volpe's Omnibus Program, a multi-contractor resource base.

"Battelle's quality support to Volpe has been recognized time and again over this eight-year period in the most visible way possible, which is through competitively awarded Omni tasks, " said Allen. "Battelle has been the most successful Omnibus contractor in terms of tasks awarded and award value."
